Exams & Revision

Top Revision Tips

Looking for ways to make revision less stressful and more effective? Try these top tips to help you stay focused, remember more, and even have a bit of fun along the way!

Post-it Notes
Write key words or facts on sticky notes and place them around your house. Use different colours for different subjects to help you visualise and memorise key ideas.

Attend Revision Sessions
Plan a timetable of which after-school revision sessions you’ll attend each day. It’s often easier (and more motivating) to revise with teachers and friends than alone at home.

Mind Maps
Instead of copying out class notes, turn them into spider diagrams. Use colours and small drawings to make connections and help you remember information more easily.

Past Papers
Complete as many past papers as you can for your exam board and subject. You can download them directly from your exam board’s website. They’re one of the best ways to prepare!

Acronyms & Mnemonics
Acronyms: Use the first letter of each word to form a new word to jog your memory, e.g. SOHCAHTOA. Mnemonics: Create funny or memorable sentences to recall information, e.g. Never Eat Shredded Wheat for North, East, South, West.

Flashcards
Summarise a topic onto a small card to focus on only the most important points. They are easy to keep in your pocket to use at any time. You can also write questions on one side and answers on the other for quick-fire testing anytime, anywhere.

Posters
Design colourful revision posters and display them around your room or study area. Seeing key information regularly helps it stick in your memory.

Revision Websites
Find out which online revision sites are best for each subject. You can ask your teachers for recommendations.

Turn Revision into a Game
Make studying fun! Try these ideas with friends or family: Blockbusters, Charades, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, The Weakest Link.
