Curriculum Intent
GCSE Sociology at our Fareham Academy offers a knowledge-rich curriculum, helping students explore key topics such as crime, inequality, and the role of family and education in society. We encourage debate and discussion on real-world issues, such as why some groups are more likely to be in poverty or how social media influences identity.
Our literacy focus ensures students develop strong reading and writing skills by analysing case studies, evaluating research, and constructing well-argued essays.
Through Sociology, students grow in confidence as they learn about different perspectives and challenge stereotypes, supporting our development of the individual. We go beyond exam requirements by encouraging students to engage with current affairs, such as government policies on crime and education, demonstrating how we go beyond the national curriculum.
Sociology is an engaging and relevant subject at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, equipping students with the skills to think critically about society and preparing them for future study or careers in law, social work, and journalism.
