Homework
The purpose of homework at Fareham Academy is to encourage students to gain the knowledge and skills required to become more independent learners. GCSEs are rigorous academic qualifications, with most marks awarded in written exams at the end of the course. To excel in many subjects, students need to have mastered the core knowledge for that subject and practised applying it to various situations.
Homework consolidates and reinforces learning at school, extends school learning, and encourages exploration and discovery of the enrichment value of learning. It provides students with opportunities for independent practice, helping to develop confidence and consolidate learning. Effective homework supports student learning and progress. The quality of homework and its relevance to main class teaching are more important than the quantity set (Homework, Secondary EEF, 2020).
We aim to keep parents involved in managing this learning experience and provide ways to support students at home.

How Parents Can Support Their Child with Homework
Parents play a key role in monitoring the learning process. They can log in to Talaxy via the website to view their child’s homework and deadlines.
Parents are provided with login details, and we ask that all parents log in regularly to support homework completion. If you experience any issues with your Talaxy password, please email enquiries@fareham-academy.co.uk, and we will assist you further.
Parents can support their child by providing an environment where distractions are minimised, ensuring homework is completed to a high standard. Students should be encouraged to reflect on their answers and think critically about the tasks. Additionally, parents can assist with developing effective revision skills.
A guide to Talaxy can be found here.
The Role of Google Classsrooms
Google Classrooms have been set up for every class. While Talaxy informs parents about homework details, including deadlines, some entries may direct students to their Google Classroom for resources. This platform offers a more interactive experience for students and allows staff to provide more in-depth feedback.
Certain subjects will continue to use additional platforms, such as Educake and Memrise, alongside Google Classrooms.
