Guidelines for Completing Your Application Form

Fareham Academy is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.

General Requirements

A completed application form is required for all candidates. A curriculum vitae (CV) is not required and will not be considered during shortlisting. If a disability prevents you from completing the form, please contact our Executive Assistant, Mrs G Payne. Please use black ink when completing the form.

Personal Details

Please complete all details as specified in the advertisement. Surname and first names should match those on your passport or driving licence. Please provide your current address, contact telephone numbers and email address (if applicable). If your address or telephone number is due to change, include these details on a separate sheet and attach it to the application form. Please note that an incomplete application form will not be accepted and may be returned for completion before consideration.

Recent Experience

Most recent experiences should be listed first. A brief explanation should be given where there are any gaps in your education or employment history. You may include your reasons for applying for the post, either in handwritten or word processed form, with a maximum of two pages and a minimum font size of 11. You are invited to also provide further information in support of your application, following the same format as above. If specific issues need to be addressed in your letter of application, these will be detailed in the post information on the school’s website.

Activities and Hobbies

Please include your activities and hobbies as requested on the application form.

References

Two references should be provided, one of whom must be your current employer or Headteacher. If you have previously worked with children but are not currently doing so, include a reference from your most recent employer in that capacity. Written references will be requested before interview for all shortlisted candidates, including internal applicants. Open references, testimonials or photocopied references will not be accepted. References will be checked against your application form. Any discrepancies or concerns may be discussed with you prior to interview. Please allow sufficient time for referees to respond, especially if applying from overseas.

Please complete all sections as requested. Do not leave gaps—tick 'Yes' or 'No' or insert 'N/A' where appropriate. If you tick ‘Yes’, provide details (including dates) on a separate sheet, place it in a sealed envelope marked for the Headteacher and enclose it with your application form. Read all information carefully, sign and date in full. Candidates are advised to retain a photocopy of their completed application form and any supporting documents.

Submitting Your Application

Applications may be submitted by post or email. Postal applications should be addressed to Mrs G Payne, Fareham Academy, St Anne’s Grove, Fareham, PO14 1JJ. Please ensure you apply the correct postage rate based on the size and weight of your envelope, as incorrect postage may mean your application is not received by the closing date Electronic applications should be emailed to g.payne@fareham-academy.co.uk or via the recruitment agency if applicable.

Shortlisting Procedure

The interview panel will meet after the closing date to agree the shortlist. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interview. If you have not been contacted within 4 weeks of the closing date, your application has not been successful.

Interview Procedure

The school aims to give candidates one week’s notice of an interview. If less than one week’s notice is given, it is your decision whether to accept the invitation. To ensure equality of opportunity, interview times cannot be extended to accommodate individual needs. Full details of the interview process will be sent with your invitation.
